Evaluation Core

The overarching research and evaluation question is whether BUILD and NRMN programs improve student, faculty/researcher, and/or institutional short and intermediate outcomes that lead to a more diverse biomedical workforce and how different program components differentially affect these outcomes. Using proven evaluation metrics and methods, the Evaluation Core (EC) is assessing the attainment of hallmarks of career success, including core competencies, by DPC participants at multiple career stages, as well as documenting indicators of institutional transformation. We are also positioned to evaluate, in the long term, whether the practices that improve outcomes lead to higher rates of career success in the biomedical field.

The Specific Aims of the EC are to:

  1. Assess the progress of students, faculty, and institutions in the BUILD program as defined by the DPC approved Hallmarks of Success.
  2. Provide technical assistance, coordination, and facilitation to BUILD, NRMN, and BUILD dissemination projects with their evaluations.
