Twenty-eight Morgan State University ASCEND Scholars attended the 2016 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), held November 9 – 12 in Tampa, Florida. Over 1,300 students participated in poster and oral presentations. ASCEND Scholars Oluwafunmilayo Ayeni, Kelly Boham, Jada Boyd, Markea Carter, Shirley Green, and Aliyah Tolliver presented their research during the poster sessions, and Deshawn Collington was invited to present her research as an oral presentation. Deshawn won an award in the Oral Presentation category.
Scholars participated in professional development workshops, inspirational plenary presentations, networking opportunities, and scientific seminars. The conference also introduced Scholars to a number of graduate schools and internship opportunities. In addition, ASCEND Scholars met students from BUILD at Xavier University and the BUILD Detroit sites during a networking session.
