Topics and Speakers Announced: NRMN Health Research Talks

Starting in late July 2016, the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) will release a series of videos on health disparities research entitled NRMN Health Research Talks. The 8-video series will provide professional development information for junior faculty planning research careers as independent investigators in fields related to community-based health and health disparities.

Faculty from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Tuskegee University will discuss various health and health disparities research topics in a lively interview format. The series will begin with “What are Social Determinants of Health and How Do They Relate to Health Disparities Research? An Overview,” led by Mona N. Fouad, MD, MPH, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, Director and Professor, Division of Preventive Medicine, Director, Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center, UAB School of Medicine.

Fouad leads the NRMN effort at UAB, in collaboration with the Research Resources and Outreach Core at Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Professional Development Core.

 


A partnership of the UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC), the NRMN Professional Development Core and the NRMN Research Resources and Outreach Core, this is a collaborative effort serving as a follow-up to the Southeast/ Deep South Grantwriting Coaching Group kick-off event at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta that took place in May 2016.

The series of professional development videos targets junior faculty and post-doctoral fellow participants in all of the NRMN Grantwriting Coaching Groups from the national training efforts. The videos will be made available on the NRMN website.
