The California State University Long Beach (CSULB) BUILD program had over 25 of its students participate at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) on Nov. 13, 2019, in Anaheim, California. Of the students attending the conference, 20 of them presented their research within disciplines such as kinesiology, psychology, and biomedical engineering.
CSULB BUILD has participated at ABRCMS since 2015. With many CSULB BUILD alumni now in graduate programs across the nation, it’s always wonderful when current participants are able to meet alumni at national conferences. Gail Manalastas, current BUILD Fellow, met with former BUILD Scholar, Sima Chokr, who was representing UC Irvine at the college recruitment tables. Chokr, a 2017 CSULB graduate, is currently in a doctoral program at UC Irvine within the department of neurobiology and behavior. She provided Manalastas with relevant feedback on her experience within both CSULB BUILD and at UC Irvine. This form of networking is one that has the potential to grow as alumni continue to progress within their professional careers.
